Mesmerizing performances by Zakir Hussain and Rahul Sharma at the Nehru Centre, Mumbai! Meeting both maestros was not only memorable but also an enriching experience that will stay with me for a lifetime. A heartfelt thank you to Jaipur Gems for curating such a sublime classical concert.
I had the privilege of attending one more remarkable performance by Rahul Sharma, at the Asia Society, Mumbai, organized by the Indian Heritage Society. Before beginning, the maestro shared a thought that struck me deeply: “You don’t need to understand the technicalities of music to enjoy it. In fact, if you don’t, you may enjoy it more—it keeps you from becoming a critic.” (as I understood it). How true this is! I wish such wisdom reached every Indian. The joy of experiencing performing or visual art is not reserved for those with technical knowledge or privileged access—it is an enriching part of being human.
At its essence, all art springs from rhythm and emotion within us, manifesting outward so we may savor the rasas of life. To appreciate art is to connect with our shared humanity, beyond barriers of expertise or background.
