I was deeply honored to be part of the opening ceremony of our Marathi Cinema exhibition, “मराठी चित्रपट: Stories and Stardom”, held on 13th June at 5:30 p.m. at NGMA Mumbai.
The show was inaugurated by the legendary Indian actor Sachin Pilgaonkar, whose reflections on his cinematic journey since childhood, along with his inspirational thoughts on Marathi theatre, heritage, and culture including food—were profoundly moving. The breathtaking stills by Kamat Photo Flash evoked joy, nostalgia, and awe, beautifully capturing the timeless essence of cinema. The narrative shared by Neha Kamat, representing the third generation of this pioneering family, highlighted their remarkable legacy. Founded in 1945 by Damodar Kamat, Kamat Photo Flash dignified the profession of still photography, serving as a timeless bridge between the cinema of yesterday and today. These production stills vividly bring alive a film’s look and feel—its characters, costumes, make-up, and every detail that defines its artistry. enhance
My heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Nidhi Choudhari, Director NGMA, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for hosting this outstanding exhibition— profound tribute to the rich and enduring legacy of Marathi Cinema.
This show not only honors the past but also inspires the present, encouraging today’s photographers like Sudharak Olwe, Shantanu Das to explore new creative avenues and carry forward the spirit of storytelling through their lens.
