Gond Tribal Art is practised by the Gond community, country’s largest tribe and
dates back to 1400 years and are well known for their artistic skills, mainly painting
or music. Many paintings are visual depictions of these songs. It showcases their daily
lives of the tribe at the same time it’s their own way to record their history.
Gond people have a belief that viewing a good image brings them good luck.
Their paintings are a reflection and form of respect of man’s close connection with
his natural surroundings. Elements like multiple parallel lines in different directions
and dots in certain directions add a sense of movement to the still images.
