Figurative Artwork

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” – Thomas Martin

Figurative art is a form of artwork that has existed for thousands of years in cultures all around the world. It retains strong references to the real world and particularly to the human figure in any of its various shapes and postures. There are no particular rules in how the figure may be illustrated. The degree of representation may range from highly detailed, anatomically correct renderings to loose and expressive sketches.
The artwork is easily identified with recognizable objects and hence, has a wide appeal amongst the masses. Over the centuries, it has gone through several phases and movements but managed to retain its essence in presenting the recognizable subject matter. In a few cases, creative figurative artworks look similar to abstraction.
Picasso after about 1920 is the great exemplar of modern figurative painting.
